Biography
Yves Giraud-Cabantous was a pioneering French racing driver who competed in the early years of Formula 1 World Championship racing. Born in Paris on October 8, 1904, Giraud-Cabantous belonged to a generation of drivers who bridged the gap between pre-war Grand Prix racing and the modern Formula 1 era.
His Formula 1 career spanned from 1950 to 1953, competing primarily with Talbot-Lago machinery. In an era when Grand Prix racing was still finding its feet as an organized world championship, Giraud-Cabantous made 13 championship starts, accumulating 5 valuable points. His best result came at the inaugural 1950 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where he finished a commendable fourth place, demonstrating his skill at the highest level of the sport.
Beyond Formula 1, Giraud-Cabantous was an accomplished sports car racer with a distinguished Le Mans career. He competed in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans an impressive 11 times between 1931 and 1955, achieving a career-best second-place finish in 1938. His endurance racing credentials were further enhanced by his victory at the 1930 Bol D'Or, showcasing his versatility across different racing disciplines.
